Recipe Review

I love how simple this dish was and how easily it came together. It is also budget friendly considering the current cost of living crisis. The most expensive part was the smoked tofu at 2 GBP but it really gave a lot of favour and added protein to the dish. The Cantonese rice includes veggies, protein, and grains so there was no need to make any side dishes. Of course we always serve every meal with fruit too.

Another thing I enjoyed about this recipe was the texture of the rice. I have always used the absorption method of cooking rice and and turns out a bit starchy/sticky, which I don’t mind. However, this recipe included a small amount of oil (which I usually omit but didn’t for the sake of trying the recipe exactly as written), and you sauté all the ingredients dry for a few minutes before adding the water. This made the rice have a much better texture. The rice was not mushy at all and it cooked in the same amount of time as all the other ingredients.
