Recipe Review

Don’t let the name fool you. As it turns out, polenta is just a fancy term for grits that are not runny. That being said, this was the best bowl of grits/polenta that I have ever had. In fact, it was the best breakfast I have ever had. The Polenta with Pears and Cranberries was so delicious that it is hard to believe it is healthy. The cinnamon makes it taste like apple pie but with the fresh crispness of the cranberries and the sweetness of the pears. This breakfast tastes very indulgent and is great for serving picky children.

Recipe Ratings:

Difficulty: Medium. It was not too complicated but it did involve some chopping and the basic polenta recipe had to be made first.

Did my toddler like it? He loved it! I had to take out the cranberries though because he is only 18 months old and cannot chew very well.

Will I make it again? All the time!

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

Update: Eight years after this recipe review, I still make this often. This recipe is one of my regulars and all five children enjoy it.

This recipe can be found on page 52 and 229 in the Forks over Knives Cookbook.

Why isn’t the recipe posted here?

This post is part of the Forks Over Knives Cookbook Project, an effort to post pictures and reviews of all 300+ recipes to help you decide which recipe is worth cooking. The cookbook only has a few photos so hopefully people find it helpful to see what the recipes look like once prepared.

I also wouldn’t want anyone new to this way of eating to get discouraged by spending a lot of time and effort on recipes that don’t taste amazing, since WFPB food can definitely taste great. I apologise about the lack of a recipe included but I cannot post it for copyright reasons. However, many of their recipes can be found on their website or their app if you don’t have the cookbook.
